‘White Custard’ is a charming addition to any summer garden, with its flat, pie-shaped fruits and delicate, creamy-white skin. Tender when cooked but not going as soggy as conventional courgettes, it’s perfect sliced into steaks or rounds and fried to golden perfection. Best enjoyed fresh from the garden for the sweetest, creamiest flavour straight to your plate.

Courgettes are fast growing and quickly become large so do not be tempted to start too early. Sow 1.5cm deep in small pots filled with peat free multipurpose compost. Sow the seeds on their side, if laid flat, water can sit on top and cause it to rot before germinating. Keep at a temperature of 20-25C until after germination, which usually takes 7-10 days. Do not exclude light as this helps germination.
Plant out in a sunny position after all risk of frost has passed. Keep well watered to avoid issues with powdery mildew. Be sure to harvest fruit regularly before it gets too large to encourage more fruit to set.
