‘Moonshine’ is a tall, branching beauty that lights up the garden all summer long. Reaching around 150 cm, its green foliage provides a perfect backdrop for cheerful pale lemon blooms, each with a velvety, almost black centre that adds dramatic contrast. Easy to grow and endlessly striking, it’s ideal for sunny borders, mixed beds, or as a bold cut flower that brings a touch of summer indoors.

Sunflowers grow quickly, so don’t be tempted to start too early. Sow sunflower seeds 1.5cm deep into individual pots of peat-free compost. Can also be sown direct after last frost. Germination takes 7 – 14 days at 21 – 27C. When your plants reach about 30cm tall, plant them out into the garden after all risk of frost has passed.
Sunflowers thrive in sun and fertile soil, but also grow well in containers. For maximum height, plant in the ground. Tall varieties may need staking; brushing seedlings regularly before planting helps strengthen stems by simulating wind.
