Take out anything soft or mouldy before it spreads, so the rest stay sound through the winter. Prune apple and pear trees while they’re dormant. Cut out any dead, damaged or crossing branches to open up the middle, so light and air can reach next year’s fruit. Curl up with a cuppa and plan next year’s plot. Sketch out your beds, note what thrived and what flopped, and start dreaming up your wishlist for spring.
