The iconic Italian storage tomato from the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. This red plum ripens much slower than standard tomatoes and will last well into winter. Usually strung up and stored in beautiful bunches this variety will taste progressively better and better throughout its 3 month storage time.

Surface sow seeds in small pots of moist, peat-free compost and just cover. Storage tomatoes need a late start no earlier than April. They need heat to germinate, and benefit from lots of light, so supplement both if necessary. Germination takes place within 1-2 weeks. Â
Plant out after last frost and water until established. From that point water as little as possible to harden the skins for storage. Will require support. Remove side shoots and lower 50% of foliage to maintain straight, healthy plants. Remove fruit when full sized and just starting to blush but not fully ripe. Harvest all ripening trusses and string up in a bunch immediately. Check regularly and remove any spoiled fruit.
Sowing Months: April – May
Harvest Months: September – October
Position: Full sun
