‘Long Island’ is a winter garden hero dating back to the 1800’s, offering a reliable, bountiful harvest when fresh greens are at their most welcome. This semi-dwarf heirloom reaches just 60–70 cm, making it perfect for exposed spots, and produces firm, tightly packed sprouts from November through January. Sweet and tender, they’re ideal for fresh cooking or freezing to enjoy later.

Growing Information

Sowing info

Sow thinly in module trays, 1-2 seeds per module, removing the weakest seedling if 2 germinate. Germination takes 5 – 14 days at 18 – 24c once germinated, they can grow on in cooler conditions.

Growing info

When plants reach around 15 cm tall, harden them off gradually before finally planting out. Best grown under insect netting to prevent attack from pests and birds. This shorter variety may not require staking.
