Blog – The basil basics Edible Houseplant Arabica Coffee Sowing info Soak seeds for 24 hours before sowing in pots of peat free compost. Sow around 1 cm deep and keep the compost consistently moist. Place in a warm, bright spot (24 – 29 °C). Germination can take 2-4 months, so patience and gentle care are key, germination is erratic so sow more than you need. Growing info Keep plants indoors or in a heated greenhouse, with bright, indirect light. Fertilise lightly in spring and summer. With consistent care, expect fragrant blooms in 3 – 4 years, followed by the first coffee cherries to enjoy or admire. Garden jobs to do this November Plant tulip bulbs now. They like going into cold soil, and it helps protect them from tulip fire. Pop them in pots or borders about three times as deep as the bulb is tall, and they’ll give you a big splash of colour come spring. Spread a thick blanket of compost or well-rotted manure over empty beds. Worms and winter weather will work it in for you, so your soil is rich and ready by spring. Give your tools some love before they hibernate. Scrub off the mud, sharpen your secateurs and wipe the blades with a drop of oil so they’re rust-free and raring to go next year.
