‘Marian’ is a winter classic with a twist. Deep purple tops give way to pale yellow, sweet, firm flesh that cooks up beautifully. This hardy variety is resistant to club root and mildew. Grown for both taste and storage, Marian keeps well, so you can enjoy wholesome, buttery swede throughout the winter. Perfect mashed with carrots, roasted, or simply served with a knob of melting butter.

Additional Information

Growing Information

Sowing info

Sow seeds directly outdoors into shallow drills about 2 cm deep, spacing rows 45 cm apart. For a more reliable crop, especially if you’ve struggled with direct sowing, start seeds in modules and transplant the seedlings once they’re large enough.

Growing info

Gradually thin seedlings to 10-15 cm apart and keep soil consistently moist to prevent woody roots. May need netting from butterfly attack in summer. This hardy winter vegetable can be harvested as needed or stored in a frost-free shed layered in dry sand for use throughout the colder months.
