This variety has gorgeous flowers that open as dark burgundy and fade to a pretty dusky lilac with a yellow centre. Planted as companion plants, they can draw pests away from vegetable plants like tomatoes and squash. They also make a wonderful crop, harvesting leaves as a substitute for peppery rocket which is prone to bolt in summer, edible petals for salads and cakes and even the green seed which can be preserved and eaten like capers. A truly useful edible flower.

Direct sow nasturtiums outdoors where they are to grow from March to May. Position in full sun. Sow nasturtium seeds thinly, at a depth of 20mm and cover seed with its own depth of soil. Nasturtiums can also be sown in pots and grown in the greenhouse before planting out in their final position. Germination usually takes 7-12 days.
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Growing nasturtiums is easy and once established, they require very little attention.
