This fascinating heirloom cucumber dates back to 1893 when a customer sent the seeds to an American seed company. Its creamy white fruits are completely unexpected and have a sweet, slightly citrus flavour and a great crunch. Add a couple of slices to your gin and tonic or slice with other cucumber varieties to make an interesting salad.
Outdoor variety.

Cucumber seeds should be sown in a warm place from March to April. Sow the seeds on their sides at a depth of 1cm in small pots of peat free compost, and keep at a temperature of approx 20C until they germinate. This usually only takes 7-10 days. Once they’ve germinated, you can move them to a bright windowsill or frost free greenhouse and grow them there until they’re big enough to be transplanted.
Plant out into a sheltered sunny postion after all risk of frost has passed. Will require some sort of support to climb. Keep harvesting fruits regularly to encourage a continual supply.
