Known as the “Giant Radish” of Japan, it has been grown in the volcanic soils of the Island of Sakurajima since around 1800 and is still famous in southern Japan for its fine flavor and mammoth size. sowing info

Best sown direct from mid summer onwards in a sunny position. Germination will usually take 5 to 7 days.  Sow at a depth of 1 cm in shallow drills and keep moist. Protect young seedlings from birds.

growing info

As roots swell, harvest the largest roots to allow more room for others to grow larger. Succession sowing every 2-4 weeks will ensure a continual supply. Will not perform well in Spring/Summer as prone to bolting.
