Sow indoors from March, or sow direct after last frost. Sprinkle on the surface of moist compost and press down gently, don’t cover, light aids germination. Keep at 15–20°C germination takes 10–14 days. Can also be sown in late summer/autumn and overwintered in an unheated greenhouse for earlier blooms next year.
Prick out and pot on as necessary, hardening off before planting out after the last frost. Space around 20cm apart. Keep watered in dry spells but don’t overdo it, as they thrive on a little neglect. Harvest regularly to prolong flowering. Final height 90cm.
