Tomatoes are fast growing, so best started in mid to late spring. They need heat to germinate, and benefit from lots of light, so supplement both if necessary. Germination takes place within 1-2 weeks. Once plants reach roughly 20 cm in height, start feeding with quarter strength organic feed.Growing infoPot on when roots are visible through drainage holes and plant out after the last frost. This indeterminate varieties will require support. Remove side shoots and lower 50% of foliage to maintain straight, healthy plants. Germination will usually take 5 to 7 days. Sow at a depth of 1cm in shallow drills and keep moist. Protect young seedlings from birds. In the south of the UK it is best to avoid sowing in the hottest weeks of summer as radishes are likely to bolt in these conditions.Growing infoAs roots swell, harvest the largest roots to allow more room for others to grow larger. Succession sowing every 2-4 weeks will ensure a continual supply.
