Earlier this year, we embarked on a very exciting project here at She Grows Veg, farming our own seeds from some of our favourite rare and unusual varieties. There’s something magical about nurturing plants from seed all the way through to harvest, and even more so when you’re saving those seeds and bringing them to growers in the UK for the first time.

Our Rare Tomato, Chilli, and Pepper Collection

This season, we focused on some truly special crops: heirloom tomatoes, vibrant chillies, and unusual pepper varieties. The colours, shapes, and flavours of these plants are just incredible, from rich, deep reds to sunny yellows and even speckled beauties that look almost too good to eat. These aren’t your average supermarket plants, each one has a story, a history, and a flavour that can’t be bought off the shelf.By farming our own seed right here in the UK, we ensure these rare varieties are preserved for the future. It also allows us to select the best plants for strong growth, disease resistance, and incredible flavour, so you know you’re getting top-quality seeds when you plant in your own garden.

Harvesting and Saving Seeds

Our team spent countless hours tending these plants, watching them flower, fruit, and finally produce seeds. Seed saving is a meticulous process, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Each seed is harvested at just the right time, carefully cleaned, and dried to perfection. Now, thanks to all that hard work, our rare tomato, chilli, and pepper seeds are ready, and they’re all packed up in little envelopes, just waiting for your garden. There’s a real joy in knowing that the same seeds that started in our greenhouse can now thrive in gardens across the country.

Ready for Home Growers

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting your home vegetable growing journey, these seeds are perfect for adding a splash of colour and flavour to your plots, patios, or windowsills. Growing from seed is such a rewarding experience, and nothing beats the taste of something you’ve nurtured yourself, especially when it’s a rare heirloom you can’t find anywhere else.So why not try something different this season? Snap up your favourite rare tomato, chilli, or pepper seeds and join us in celebrating the beauty of home-grown, home-saved plants. Your garden (and your taste buds) will thank you.
