Our story
Shop all seeds
She Grows Veg launched in November 2023 and was created by female founders Lucy Hutchings and Kate Cotterill.
The launchpad for the company stemmed from Lucy’s @shegrowsveg instagram account. Lucy has shared her heirloom growing exploits on Instagram for 7 years. With Kate’s business brain on board, the two started She Grows Veg Heirloom seed company to help bring all of the unusual heirloom varieties Lucy had been growing to the wider growing community in the UK.
She Grows Veg has a range of over 200 seed varieties and it is growing all the time as Kate and Lucy source fascinating heirloom varieties from around the world.
Our CCO, Founder Instagram star Lucy, otherwise known as @shegrowsveg grew a huge instagram following that served as the springboard for our business. Lucy has written a book on Grow Your Own and featured on TV programmes such as BBC Gardeners World and Building Your Dream. Lucy’s design pedigree began in her past as jewellery designer to celebrities such as Cheryl Cole and Kylie Minogue.
Lucy is obsessed with bringing new and interesting varieties to UK growers for the first time and her growing and heirloom knowledge is second to none.

The Happy Packers This band of brilliant women take care in packing every order for our wonderful customers. It is thanks to them that we consistently achieve our 4.9 rating on FEEFO reviews.
Lorna, Happy Packers Chief Lorna runs our packing and customer service team. One of the most positive, hard-working people we know – she’s also a dab hand at growing delicious heirloom tomatoes with her 3 kids.
Cara, Numbers Guru Cara runs the company’s finances and keeps us all in line – well someone’s got to! She’s embarking on growing veg for the first time with her 3 boys and was the proud producer of homegrown peas this season!
Elaine, Trial Garden Assistant Elaine’s growing love of horticulture is one of her biggest pleasures. She is helping us trial some incredible new varieties in the trial garden. She’s often working alongside Lucy’s crazy Dalmation Milo!
Nelly, Marketing Assistant Nelly is an incredible cook and learner marketeer! She makes beautiful cakes and bakes and adds a lot of joy to our team.
Our trial growers are some of the most important people in our business! We know that growing conditions vary hugely throughout the UK, so there’s no use trialling all our varieties only at our Suffolk HQ. So, we have formed a band of brilliant trial growers who live everywhere from Scotland to Cornwall. These gardeners are growing in containers on a balcony, allotments, gardens, small holdings and even on farms.
We provide the seeds and they grow them, giving us feedback along the way so that we can give the best advice and varieties to our customers. They are also the loveliest and most supportive bunch of people, which makes them a joy to have on board.

Charity work
As part of our mission to help as many people as possible to start growing their own food, we are excited to be launching our new charitable initiatives in 2025. We will be working with a new growing charity as part of our road to RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025 (more on this soon!). She Grows Veg will be supporting a charity by running growing workshops with residents, donating seeds to get communities started and donating plants from our Chelsea 2025 exhibit after the event.
She Grows Veg will be donating packets of seeds to our chosen charities, seed banks and seed swaps year round as part of our mission to help everyone to grow their own food.
At She Grows Veg we are passionate about being a sustainable business. And it’s not just lip service, we live and breathe it.
We think that as a society we have a big problem that we’re not looking after ourselves or our environment well enough. Growing your own food kills two birds with one stone. It nourishes you and your family with the best ingredients and reduces food miles, packaging and waste all in one solution.
Our mission is to help as many people as possible grow their own for this reason but also to do this in a responsible way as a business.
We are excited to be exhibiting at RHS Chelsea Flower Show again in 2025! We made our Gold-winning debut in 2024 and we’ll be returning with a show stopping exhibit which will be bigger and better than ever before. Our concept for 2025 is “Grow The Rainbow” and we will be creating our display with the help of talented Floral Designer Hazel Gardener.
